IRISH DANCE

I have been Irish Dancing with Murphy Irish Arts Center since I was four years old, becoming a competitive dancer at about age twelve. As a competitive solo dancer, I’ve moved up to the Open Championship level (the uppermost level in local competition), I’ve competed at the Mid-America Oireachtas (Regionals) for four years, and as of July 2019 will have competed at the North American Irish Dance Championships twice. As a member of several Ceili, Choreography, and Drama teams over the years, competing in U12, U15, O15, and Senior Drama categories, and I have competed at the Mid-America Oireachtas every year since 2012. Most notably, I have been a part of the Senior Drama team since the 2014 – a group that has won the Mid-America Oireachtas consecutively since then. The Senior Drama team won first place at the CLRG World Championships in 2015, third place at the World Championships in 2017, and first place at the North American Irish Dance Championships in 2018 – a record success for my dance school.

Every week I teach the Level 2 class at my dance school - a group of about ten 6-8 year olds.

The Murphy Irish Arts Center is also well-engaged with the Greater Cleveland community. We preform at a great number of shows during "St. Patrick's Season" at nursing homes, hospices, and several family parties. We dance in the St. Patrick's Day Parade, often winning "Best Unit", and regularly perform at the Cleveland International Tattoo and Mayo Society of Greater Cleveland Ball.

The first video below is a short compilation of competitive Irish Dance material. In this video there are three clips: first, the set piece to Vanishing Lake Set Dance at speed 69. Second, 16 bars of a reel. Third, 16 bars of a treble reel.

The second video below is from when I had the opportunity to dance a jig in the finale of the Apollo's Fire Baroque Orchestra's Gala Benefit concert.
